Pegeen was born in 1925 in Ouchy, Switzerland, and died in Paris in 1967. The daughter of the celebrated collector Peggy Guggenheim and the writer Laurence Vail, she grew up among leading figures of Surrealism and developed a singular body of work, between naïve figuration and a fantastical universe.

Her paintings, gouaches and mixed-media works on paper depict colorful interiors, checkerboard floors, stylized figures and symbolic imagery. They form dreamlike landscapes that are both tender and unsettling, where an apparent naïveté conceals a deeper understanding.

Her work is held in major collections, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
In Paris, DURAZZO is presenting a solo exhibition of her work, the first entirely devoted to her in sixty years, which opened on the occasion of the annual MaSH evening.
